Abstract

This paper presents a historical analysis of the bicentennial development of the forestry and timber industry in the European North, which is called as "the white sea taiga". Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vologda regions and the Republics of Karelia and Komi are included in this region. The article emphasizes the "sacrificial" role of the regional forests in the state economy development.
