Annotation

The article is devoted to the analysis and summary of two centuries of forest management in Russia in order to compare the forest sector situation in pre-revolutionary Russia and during Perestroika. These periods had private capitalist market economy in common, which helped us identify positive aspects of state forests management that can be useful for setting guidelines for the future.
