Abstract

The paper provides a summary of the “GAP-analysis” project. A logical approach to selection of optimum locations for new protected areas is presented, taking into account the environmental value of forest ecosystems. Arkhangelsk region forests valuable in terms of environment are listed; their brief description and peculiarities of mapping are given.
